Special Educational Needs and Disability (SEND) Local Offer

Our School Special Educational Needs Report

Gomersal St Mary’s Primary School is supported by Kirklees Local Authority to ensure that all pupils, regardless of their specific needs, make the best possible progress in school. We aim to be as inclusive as possible, so that the needs of our pupils with SEND can be met in a mainstream setting, when this is appropriate and where families want this to happen.

Frequently Asked Questions:

These are some of the questions most frequently asked by parents and carers about what the school offers in order to support children with special educational needs and/or disabilities (SEND) such as:

  • How we identify children with SEND
  • How we support children with SEND
  • What to do if you think your child needs extra help.

If you have any other questions or concerns, please contact the SENCo (Special Educational Needs Coordinator) at school.

This person is Mrs. K Hemingway.

You can do this by phoning the school on 01274 874550 or email the school office on the following address: office@gsmcep.co.uk.

Staff will be happy to speak to you and arrange an appointment to visit school and speak to Kirsty Hemingway.

At St Mary’s we have a whole-school approach towards Special Educational Needs and disability (SEND) policy and practice.  Pupils identified as having SEND are, as far as practicably possible, fully integrated into mainstream classes. Every effort is made to ensure they have full and equal access to the National Curriculum and that they are integrated into all aspects of school life including trips, residential and after school activities/clubs etc.

All Kirklees maintained schools have a similar approach to meeting the needs of pupils with Special Educational Needs and are supported by the Local Authority to ensure that all pupils, regardless of their specific needs, make the best possible progress in school.
