On behalf of the staff, children and Governors I would like to thank you for visiting our website and taking an interest in our school. Caring Christian values are central to the ethos of Gomersal St Mary’s CE(C) Primary School, and our distinctive Christian character means we value each child as an individual taking into account their uniqueness, specific needs and talents. As a church school we aim to serve our community, and welcome people of all faiths and of none.
Our school is very much a community, where our staff work together to support and nurture our children and their families, as well as each other, to be the best version of themselves possible. This is summed up in our Vision: ‘By being the best we can be, we all shine brightly, making our world a better place’. This vision drives what we do at school and helps our staff and pupils to reach their full potential in every area of school life (academic, social, personal, physical and spiritual) and, as a result, enables them to make a real difference to the world around them.
The Biblical reference ‘Let Your Light Shine’ Matthew 5:16 is the inspiration for our vision. Here Jesus tells us all that our ‘light,’ if hidden, serves no one; He reminds us that, in a world that can sometimes seem dark, we all have the power to use this ‘light’ within as a source of good in the world, that we can all make a difference for the better. Our vision harnesses this idea so that all members of our school community are nurtured and encouraged to blossom in everything they do and develop a real sense of self-worth and belief that the change they want to see can start with them.
We offer a warm and caring environment which enables children to feel safe and secure as they grow, learn and develop. Our ‘Steps To Success’ (the Christian values of Love, Respect, Friendship, Forgiveness and Resilience) are key values that we foster and develop in our pupils to support them to achieve our vision during their time at school. We hope that by the time the children leave us, they have an aspirational mindset and the self-worth to flourish, that as they embark upon their life’s journey, as valuable, confident and compassionate individuals, they are ready to take their place in their community and the world beyond.
We are proud of our children. They act as fantastic ambassadors for our school, participating in extended links with other schools, St Mary’s Church, and in the local community.
We hope you find all the information you need, but please don’t hesitate to contact us if you require further information.
