Governing Body

Meet Our Chair Of Governors

Justin Waters

Justin Waters

I have been a governor at Gomersal St Mary’s since 1997, originally as a Parent Governor after my daughter entered nursery in 1995.  I also live in Gomersal and enjoy doing so very much.  Since taking early retirement in 2010 I can now devote more of my spare time in supporting the school and with this in mind I recently became Vice Chair and then Chair of Governors.

My role and that of all Governors is to act as a critical friend to the school and its staff and provide help and support where needed in ensuring that we deliver high standards of education to our pupils within a well managed, caring and safe environment.

It’s very important to me to feel that I am making a positive contribution to the community in which I live and I believe there is no better way of doing this than in helping to provide our young people with an excellent education within which are enshrined Christian and Family values.

Meet Our Vice-Chair of Governors

Irene Harford

Irene Harford

Hello, I am Irene and pleased to be a member of St Mary’s Governing body. I recently joined the team in the Summer of 2017. I have lived in Gomersal for over 40 years but recently moved to Liversedge earlier this year. However, I keep in close contact with news in school and around Gomersal.

My husband Michael and I have two children (Sarah & David) who both attended local church schools. My interests are walking, music, reading, botanical drawing and going on holidays!

In my former life, I was a headteacher of three schools in Calderdale. I also recently retired from work as a Leeds Metropolitan University link tutor for primary student teachers in 2016. I have a wealth of experience in education which I hope will make me a valuable member in my role as a critical friend on the governing body of the school.

I have worked alongside different faiths when I helped administer and produce the annual report of the local SACRE group in Calderdale (Standing Advisory Committee for Religious Education). Needless to say, involvement with children has been, and continues to be, a focus for me. Every child should realise their full potential. Education should be about the development of the whole child celebrating their successes, having high expectations and supporting their progress.

I wish to be involved with the whole community supporting where I can the important work of the headteacher, staff, parents, governors and church members in making the school a happy safe learning environment for all the children in our care.
