Dear Parents/carers,

Please can we ask that pupils do not come to school in crocs, or similar shoes. We are having a number of accidents where pupils have fallen when running. Children need to wear proper school shoes, or trainers on PE days.

Please make sure these payments are made on time as they are linked to our payment deadlines with the companies organising the trips. Thank you.

Can you help?

We are after magazines, brochures, catalogues or leaflets that we can use to cut up for group activities. If you have any lying around, please drop them off with staff at the gate.

Year 4 Multiplication Test

The multiplication tables check (MTC) is statutory for all year 4 pupils registered at state-funded maintained schools, in England. The purpose of the MTC is to determine whether pupils can recall their times tables fluently, which is essential for future success in mathematics. Our children will be taking the test after the half term holidays so you could support this by testing your child either verbally or giving them access to online times tables games such as Times Tables Rockstars.

ParentPay accounts

It is essential that you make every effort to clear your Parent Pay accounts for Breakfast Club, Tea Time Club, Nursery and lunches. From September payments for Tea Time Club and Breakfast Club must be made prior to your child staying. Therefore, all accounts need to be settled before the end of the summer holidays. If you have questions regarding this, please speak to school.

ECO Schools

Thank you to everyone who has donated uniform for the Uniform Bank – we will be running another one shortly offering all school uniform free of charge.  If anyone can donate clean uniform in a good condition, we would be very grateful.  We particularly need girl’s cardigans, all sizes, but especially EY’s and KS1, boy’s jumpers for KS1 and girl’s summer dresses.

Don’t forget that we also recycle batteries at school. These can be handed into the office or Year 5.

Events inspired by Jo Cox

Leaflets are attached to this newsletter for the following events:

  • Jo Cox Memorial Rugby Match – Batley Bulldogs V York Knights (Sunday 4th June at Fox’s Biscuits Stadium, Batley)
  • The Great Health and Wellbeing Get Together (Saturday 24th June, Wilton Park, Batley)
  • Run for Jo and Family Fun Day (Sunday 25th June at Oakwell Hall)

Tax Free Childcare

Gomersal St.Mary’s is now registered to accept Tax Free Childcare Vouchers to help pay for Breakfast Club and Tea Time Club.

Tax Free Childcare is a Government Scheme that pays 20% of childcare costs up to a maximum of £2000 per year. The scheme is open to all parents of children under the age of 12.

To be eligible for the Tax Free Childcare Scheme, you must be working and if you have a partner they must work too, and you must not be receiving any support through Tax Credits or Universal Credit.

PE uniform/donations

Please can I remind you that children must wear the correct PE uniform for these lessons. The uniform is a plain white t-shirt and then shorts/tracksuit bottoms/sweatshirts/hoodies must be a plain dark colour.

If you have any PE white t-shirts that your child no longer needs, please give them to school so that we can pass them on.

Carrier Bags

There has been a request from Batley Food Bank for carrier bags. As you can imagine it is very easy to run out of bags and when times are hard the pressure on the food bank is even greater. If you do have any bags please drop them off at school and we will pass them on.

Free training from Kirklees:

FREE Child Accident Prevention – e-learning training

Unintentional childhood injury results in over 2 million visits to A&E in the UK – Over half of these injuries occur in the home. On average 62 children under the age of five died as a result of an accident and over 76,000 under the age of 14 are admitted for treatment, of which over 40% are under 5 years of age.

This e-learning course enables parents, carers and practitioners to:

  • Identify risks in the home and elsewhere that are the common causes of childhood accidents
  • Describe steps you are able to take in order to reduce the risk and prevent childhood accidents
  • To be confident in making changes or supporting families to make changes, to keep children safer.

The training takes approximately 30 – 40 minutes to complete. On completion you will receive a certificate.

If you are a parent/carer of a young child/ren or a professional working with/supporting young children, we strongly advise you to complete this training to develop your knowledge on child accident prevention. This will enable you to go on to make a difference in reducing childhood accidents in Kirklees.
