Dear Parents/carers

The Easter Bunny is coming to school

With Easter just around the corner, we are very EGGCITED to announce we are having a special visitor in school! The Easter Bunny will be hopping into Gomersal Saint Mary’s on Thursday 30th March! Thank you to everyone who has signed up to take part.

Easter Service

We are holding our Easter Service in St Mary’s Church on Wednesday 29th March at 1.30pm. This service will be led by Year 4 children so we welcome families and friends of Year 4 to come along and join us.

Easter competition

We are holding our annual egg decorating competition next week where children are invited to create a model/scene on a given theme. This year’s theme is the King’s coronation/Royal family. Please bring your entries to the school hall on Friday morning. There will be a prize for the best entry.

Easter egg raffle

We will have our school Easter egg raffle next Friday. All of our children will be given a ticket free of charge and then we will pull out a name for each egg. If you would like to donate an egg please leave it with an adult on the gate.

Tea-time Club:

Tea Time Club this Easter

Monday 27th – Friday 31st March.

We have lots of fun arts, crafts and activities to make this Easter Egg-cellent.

As an extra treat, we will be doing a ‘design your own egg’ competition, with prizes to be won!

To book your child’s place for this Egg-stravaganza, please call or email the school office.

We are very Egg-cited to see you all.

Mrs Wharton and Miss Hacking

Mother’s Day

Thank you to everyone who took part in our Mother’s Day gift event. I’m sure the gifts were much appreciated and we raised money towards outdoor play equipment.

GIVE EVERY HEAD A BED

Zarach is a charity committed to helping children and families who are living in crisis.  They can deliver beds and basics.  https://zarach.org/

Please click on the link to find out more about how this organisation can help you.

Questionnaire

At parent’s evening we passed out questionnaires for families to fill in. If you have not received one and would like to share your thoughts on our school, please ask the adults on the gate. Next week we will put all the named completed questionnaires into a prize draw.

London trip

Year 4 and 5 families have received a letter about our next London trip which will take place in May 2024. We are holding an information meeting at 4.30pm on Monday 27th March in the school hall for any questions you may have.

Year 1 History project

Year 1 are completing a History project finding out what life was like in the past 100 years. As part of their work they would like to ask our families some questions about their lives when they were younger. You should have received a link to the questionnaire via text. Year 1 would be really grateful if you could complete it.

Year 4 Walk for Water

Year 4 have continued with their sponsored Walk For Water as part of their WE Schools Project. We have been learning about those people in the world who don’t have access to clean, fresh water and are fundraising to donate to WaterAid to help these people out. We are walking for 15 minutes every school day in March to help understand how it must feel to make this essential walk each day. £15 is enough to change one person’s life with clean water.

So far, over 195 minutes of walking, we have completed 22.13km each, around the same as if we were to walk to Barnsley from school.

Please consider supporting us by making a donation at the office.

Supporting your children with Maths

This will be held at school on Tuesday 28th March 9am – 11am. Anyone can attend this course, but if you are below level 2 in Maths you can qualify for a £10 shopping voucher. If you attend the second part (to be arranged) you will then qualify for another £10. See Mrs Boyle for further details and to book your place. I have attached a leaflet with more information.

Tea Time Club price increase

As you will be aware everyone is being affected by increased costs and unfortunately we are not exempt from this either. Therefore we have decided to only have one price of £9.00 covering the whole period of time from 3pm to 6pm.  The price change will start after Easter. I apologise for having to do this, but we desperately want to keep our Tea Time Club going, and so it is essential that we cover our costs.

ParentPay accounts

Please make every effort to ensure you keep on top of your Parent Pay accounts for Breakfast Club, Tea Time Club, Nursery and lunches. It is essential that you keep below the £30 maximum debt. If you’re struggling to meet your payments then please speak to school.

Easter activities at Cliffe House

I should have been sent a leaflet regarding the variety of activities that are taking this place at Cliffe House. There are some fun options to please take a look.

Old uniform and towel request

We are really short of bigger sizes in jumpers and cardigans. If you have any that your children have grown out of we would really appreciate it if you could donate them to school. We could also do with some towels to have as spares for children who go swimming.

Internet Safety

We all want children to be able to enjoy exploring the internet safely. Parental controls and safety settings can help parents with this by giving them the ability to put limits on what their child can do and see when they’re on screens. Vodafone have developed Digital Parenting Pro, one of the UK’s largest parental controls and safety settings resources, which helps parents discover what settings are available across some of the most popular apps, games and devices. And their Parental controls & safety settings checklist gives parents 5 key questions to ask themselves before using these features.

Breakfast Club:

Don’t forget that Breakfast Club is now open from 7.30am.

Coffee Morning:

All welcome to our informal Coffee /Tea mornings (drink and natter). These are held every Tuesday after dropping your children off at School (8.45 till 10.00am). Under school age children welcome too as there are lots of toys for them to play with. Please join us in the Children’s Centre with Mrs Boyle supplying the drinks and biscuits.

Here are the training days for the next school year:

Thursday 4th May 2023
Monday 24th July 2023
Tuesday 25th July 2023

Don’t forget the extra Bank Holiday for the King’s coronation on Monday 8th May.

Yours sincerely, Miss J. Barker
