Dear Parents/carers

World Book Day:

World Book Day was on Thursday 3rd March.

There were some wonderful costumes on display yesterday for World Book Day, please check out the class twitters to see some pictures. It looks like all children enjoyed their day. Year 1 would like to thank everyone who decorated a potato for the character competition! It was a tough decision to judge, and Miss Barker had to help decide the winner from Year 1, but they are delighted to announce the winners for each year group who received a new book during worship.

EYFS: Skyler, Year 1: Isabel, Year 2: Georgia, Year 3: Sonny, Year 4: Carter, Year 5: Molly and Year 6: Laurie

Thank you to everyone who got involved.

Miss Byram

Non-uniform for Eli:

A message from Eli’s parents:

Eli was diagnosed with leukodystrophy at the age of 3. He has vanishing white matters – Vanishing White Matter Disease (VWM) is a genetic disorder that affects the nervous system and causes neurologic symptoms. Although initially recognised as a disease of young children, it is now known that the disease has a highly variable course with a wide range in severity. A striking feature of VWM is that in addition to a generally slow progression of symptoms, patients may show episodes of rapid neurological deterioration in response to certain stressors, such as infection or minor head trauma.

This is a brain disease there currently isn’t a cure for and we was told Eli would live between 5 and 10 years from his onset. We were luckily given the chance last year 2021 in May to travel to Amsterdam where there is a medical trial taking place. We went out there for 8 weeks where Eli went under alot of treatment and testing. Eli is coming up for his yearly check up on the 19th of June when we fly out again for a week but unfortunately this isn’t funded. I have asked for community help to help raise a little bit of money for us to fly out to Amsterdam for Eli to have his MRI scan; he will also see his Neurologist and physio. This MRI scan will hopefully show if the medication is working or not. We really appreciate everyone’s help and support.

Of course we are more than happy to support the family with this and so we will be holding a non-uniform day on Monday 28th March. As Eli’s favourite colour is red we thought we would choose this as a theme. Please make a donation on this day towards the family’s travel costs.

Class photos:

Please note that class photographs are taking place on Thursday 10th March. Could Year 1 please come to school in their uniform and bring their PE uniform in a bag to change into.

Tea-Time Club:

Unfortunately, we didn’t have enough places for everyone this week so please don’t forget to book your place at Tea-Time Club in advance. There’s lots of fun to be had so come along!

To book your child’s place, please call or email the school office.

Mrs Wharton and Miss Hacking
