Dear Parents/carers,

All Souls:

Next week we will be having our annual Remembrance Service in Church where we will also be remembering soldiers who gave their lives in Gomersal by name.  Each of the classes will place red ribbons on a remembrance tree under the canopy near the school entrance, each one bearing a soldier’s name during a time of reflection.

We will also be invited to remember our loved ones (family and friends) who have died.  Children, parents and carers are invited to write names and memories of a loved one.  These can be placed on an empty chair (reflection space) in the library (this has been relocated from the gazebo). It is a reminder that when someone dies, they leave a gap in our lives.  This activity offers a simple, safe place for our school community to consider and express a bit of how they feel about someone who they have loved and lost – the empty chair represents the person we have lost. It encourages us to reflect on the good memories, but it also allows for, and affirms, the sad ones too. It’s OK to not be OK. Our children are using a red luggage label to share their thoughts. If you would like to contribute to our special chair, please ask your child to collect a label, or contact the office and we will send a label home.

SMASH:

After a break due to COVID, SMASH are keen to start up again and fundraise for our school. Their first meeting is at The Wickham Arms on Monday 8th November at 7.30pm. It would be lovely to see some new members so please come along and see how you can support our school. Please remember that you do not have to commit a huge amount of time if you help out.

Poppies:

We have received our poppies from the British Legion and they will be available for a donation from Monday. The Pupil Leadership Team will be going around classes so that children can have a poppy in exchange for a donation.  We also have the zip pulls, reflector poppies, wristbands and snap bands which will be available from the PLT before school on Wednesday, Thursday and Friday. The recommended donation for these is between 50p and £1.50.

Children In Need:

Children In Need is on Friday 19th November. This is a fantastic cause and so we are pleased to offer our support. We will have a non-uniform day where pupils can come in their own clothes or dress up as Pudsey, spots etc. In exchange for wearing non-uniform please can pupils bring a donation which will be passed on to Children In Need.

Tea Time Club:

Remembrance Day Crafts: Friday 12th November

We thought it would be lovely to mark this special day, by creating your very own Poppy design.

A lovely gift or keepsake for you to take home. Come along and join us. To book your child’s place, please call or email the School Office.

See you there, Mrs Wharton and Miss Hacking
