Dear parents/carers
Medals
Please can I say thank you very much to SMASH for purchasing lockdown medals for all the pupils. We gave them out on Tuesday to acknowledge the one year anniversary of our country going into lockdown. It was a fantastic gesture to commemorate such a significant time in our lives.
Breakfast Club and After School Club
Just a reminder that our Breakfast and After School Clubs are back up and running. If you would like your child to attend please book in at the school office. This week the children have had a great time with Easter activities and tonight it’s film night!
Uniform results
Thank you very much for all the people who took time to complete our uniform questionnaire. A significant number of responses meant we got a true picture of your thoughts. Overall I feel that there was a wish to keep our uniform as it is although a number of people were keen to remove the ties. Could we therefore go to a round neck grey jumper for KS2 and take the tie out of the uniform? I would appreciate your thoughts on this. If you would like to please email school with your thoughts.
Lateral flow tests for families
Message from Kirklees:
I am writing to make you aware that Kirklees Council is bringing a new mobile collection point to your area for one day per area to make it easier for your parents/carers/bubbles to access Covid-19 Lateral Flow home testing kits.
In a national effort to reduce infection rates, twice-weekly asymptomatic Covid-19 testing is currently available for anyone over 18 who shares a household or bubble with a school pupil or member of school staff.
We’re doing this as a pilot, to better understand demand for this type of service.
Anyone over 18 who shares a household or bubble with a pupil or member of staff at your school is eligible to collect two packs of home testing kits (containing seven tests each) at the locations and times as detailed below between the hours of 8am-12noon and 1pm-5pm. This includes staff associated with the school such as bus drivers.
Please see the other attached document (below) for more information.
Earth Hour
Earth Hour is taking place on Saturday 27th March at 8.30pm. Have a look at their website for lots of different ideas as to how you can support this initiative. The simplest idea is to simply switch of all non-essential lights to highlight the climate crisis we are in and the resulting loss of nature. Please make every effort to take part.

PE kit
Thank you to everyone who has now made sure their children are wearing the correct PE kit. After Easter we will be checking this more thoroughly and will follow up any child who is not in the correct kit. Just to remind you this is a dark coloured (grey, black, dark blue), plain jumper/hoodie with the same type of joggers.
Thank you for all your support and have a fantastic Easter Holiday.
Yours sincerely, Miss J. Barker
Dear parent/guardian,
I’m contacting you to make you aware that Kirklees Council is bringing a new mobile collection point to your area for one day to make it easier for you to access Covid-19 Lateral Flow home testing kits.
In a national effort to reduce infection rates, twice-weekly asymptomatic Covid-19 testing is currently available for anyone over 18 who shares a household or bubble with a school pupil or member of school staff.
You may already be aware that there are a few different ways you can access your twice-weekly asymptomatic tests. However, we know it can be difficult for some people to access these options for a number of reasons, so we’re bringing a mobile collection point to your area for one day and it will be open at more flexible hours.
We’re doing this as a pilot to better understand demand for this type of service.
Anyone over 18 who shares a household or bubble with a pupil or member of staff at Gomersal St Mary’s CE Primary School is eligible to collect two packs of home testing kits (containing seven tests each) at Gomersal Public Hall on 29th March 2021 between the hours of 8am-12noon and 1pm-5pm. This includes staff associated with the school such as bus drivers.
You don’t need to book, just turn up and please wear a face covering a social distance from those outside your household or bubble.
The tests come with instructions on how to use the tests and how frequently you should take them.
Please be mindful that we have a limited supply, and this pilot is aimed at people who are struggling to access the other ways of getting tests.
Other ways to get your asymptomatic tests:
- There are collection sites available across Kirklees. You do not need to book and you can collect two packs of home test kits at a local collection point. Each pack contains 7 tests.
- You can also take a rapid lateral flow test at a local site. Testing at these sites is assisted, which means you will swab yourself under the supervision of a trained operator.
- Your workplace may offer rapid lateral flow testing to you. Contact your employer to find out more.
- You can also order a home test kit online but please note that this is a limited service and is aimed at those who are unable to get test from the other methods because they are shielding for example.
Taking a test helps reduce the spread of the virus in your community.
- If you test positive, you help to break the chain of transmission of COVID-19 in your household, support bubble and community.
- The test identifies and supports infectious people to isolate before they develop symptoms.
- Testing helps with the management and containment of COVID-19 outbreaks.
- Testing protects those most vulnerable to the impacts and consequences of COVID-19.
If you have symptoms
Go to COVID-19 Test and Trace: Getting a test if you have symptoms if you require a test because you have symptoms.
Please play your part and protect your community by taking your twice-weekly Covid-19 Lateral Flow tests.
