As you can see Class Two are having a great time working on their sculpture project. They are using the work of Yorkshire sculptor Henry Moore as a starting point for drawings of natural forms – each other!

They are then moving on from their 2D drawings to make sculptures of people made from paper and tape. As you can see from the photos, the children are learning about sculpture in an active fun way!

In the Nursery Garden…

Reception and Nursery children have chitted their potatoes and have planted them, they are also watching as their broad beans germinate in class as part of their learning.

In the Secret Garden…

Class One children have planted up strawberry and blueberry plants into their raised bed and these plants will remain a popular permanent addition to the Secret garden and to the learning about healthy foods in class year after year. The children are growing plants from seeds in class.

Class Two children planted broad beans over winter and the results are looking fantastic in the two raised beds outside Class Two. The onions we over wintered are sprouting up now and we are looking forward to eating them. The children planted early and late potatoes in the raised bed in the Secret garden and we are waiting for them to sprout. The plum tree has sprung into life and we will have to wait and see if we get any plums from it in its first season.

Class Three children have planted rhubarb which is doing well and are also due to get beetroot and radishes going in class.

Class Four children have planted runner beans and peas which despite the rainy weather are doing well.

Class Five children have planted leek seedlings and carrot and lettuce seeds in the Secret Garden and are waiting to see some progress!

Over the last few weeks we have been selling the last of our old uniform at ½ price, but we are now offering everything at £1 per item; book bags and PE kit as well.  Some children might just need an item to cover over the summer term.

There will be a café in the hall for refreshments and the Year 4 children will be having their weekly African Drumming lesson in the morning.

The times are:-

• Morning session: 9.30 am – 10.45am (with African Drumming at 10.15am)
• Afternoon session: 1.30 pm – 2.45pm

Please support the open day, and ask friends and family to come with you.  The children love to have visitors in school, especially their mums, dads and grandparents.

The Glorious Games
I run and cycle, dive and swim; I’m always being active.
But if events I want to win, each day I have to practise.
You need determination to achieve your very best

So as I train, I concentrate and focus on my dream

Are you feeling lucky? S.M.A.S.H would like to invite you to join us in celebrating our annual Race Night on Friday 18^th May 2012.  This year we will also be offering optional hot supper for you to purchase on the night.

The event will be held at Gomersal Cricket Club with doors opening at 7.30pm and with the first race under starter’s orders at 8pm.

During the evening, there will be many opportunities to win prizes including numerous bottles of fizz, and for those first past the post, cash sums! In the final race of the evening, you’ll have the chance to win big: with a single £1 bet there’s the possibility of winning a Grand Prize of £100!

Tickets will be available from Monday 23^rd April on a first-come-first-served basis outside the office before and after school, and will cost £3.00, which includes a £2.00 stake on the last race with the chance to win the Grand Prize.  If you cannot attend the evening please support us by having a go on the tricast or ‘buying’ a horse in one of the races!
