School Updates: Friday, 17th March 2017

First of all can I thank everyone who attended our parents evenings this week. Your support is much appreciated and it makes such a difference being able to share your child’s progress with you.

Free School Meals

As you are aware children in Reception, Y1 and Y2 receive a free school meal every day paid for by the Government.  This has been very successful and saves parents around £400 per year. Hopefully this arrangement will continue next year but with budget cuts in education it may not.  The Government monitor how successful this scheme is by accessing our school data, and we are aware 30% of our children are not having school meals, which is worth around £13,200 a year.  If we don’t use it we will lose it, and this is a massive benefit to lots of parents.

If your child is in Years 3, 4, 5 and 6 you might also be able to get free school meals if you get any of the following:

  • Income Support.
  • Income-based Jobseeker’s Allowance.
  • Income-related Employment and Support Allowance.
  • Support under Part VI of the Immigration and Asylum Act 1999.
  • The guaranteed element of Pension Credit.

If you are unsure if you are entitled to Free School Meals due to your claiming benefits, this may help: www.kirklees.gov.uk/beta/schools/free-school-meals.aspx

Please consider applying even if your child is in Reception, Y1 and Y2 as you would be able to claim free milk as well. The school will also receive additional financial support, as we also get extra funding for all FSM children.

Ofsted

I have recently met with the NLE (National Leader for Education) who will be supporting our school, and our Kirklees Learning Partner. We are now in the process of writing the action plans which will hopefully be finalised before Easter. These highlight the actions that we need to address as a result of the inspection.

Dates

I have included some key dates below. I apologise for the lateness of getting these to you, but I hope you will still be able to attend any events that your child is involved with.
