Holiday Requests: An Update1 minute read

I appreciate that we are now entering the main holiday season and as a result I am receiving a number of requests for time off school in order for families to have a holiday. I am writing to remind families that school, supported by the Governors, cannot authorise term time holidays. It is essential that children attend school throughout the year so that their education is not interrupted and they have the best chance at making maximum progress.

If this holiday period enters into a 5th day, then a penalty notice will be issued. Please note that this amounts to £60 for each parent for each pupil going on the holiday. If payment is made after 21 days of the notice being issued then this increases to £120. If payment is not received within 28 days then the case is referred to the magistrates court. The money raised by a penalty notice DOES NOT come to school, but is paid to Kirklees Local Authority.

It is also essential that we are informed when a child is absent from school so that, from a safeguarding point of view, we know that the child is being cared for. Therefore the school office now has forms to complete if children are to miss school due to term time holidays. These inform us as to the reason for the absence, and the dates the child will be away from school. These forms also provide you with the opportunity to explain any reasons why this holiday needs to be taken during school time.

Many thanks for your co-operation in this matter. Yours sincerely, Miss J. Barker.
