The Easter holidays are upon us and I know the children and staff are ready for a break as this has been a long term. Lots of things are happening in school. Mrs Christopher is leaving us to gain more experience to enable her to pursue her intended career as a teacher. We wish her good luck and our best wishes go with her.
We are very proud and pleased to have been presented with an improvement award by Kirklees. The school has improved its Early Years Profile scores over the last 3 years. The school have narrowed the gap by a reduction of 15% or more in the number of children in the lowest 20% over 3 years. It is really good to see the impact of the hard work that is done in school. Well done Nursery and Reception staff!
The children participating in the Zumba class and the Martial arts class have been showing their parents what they have achieved. It was lovely to see so many parents and to share in the children’s success. Well done everyone!
We have bought a small gift of an Easter book for each child in school. We hope you enjoy reading them with your child and using the book as an opportunity to explain and discuss the complexities of the Easter story.
Plans for Years 4 and 5 for September 2011
The plan to remove the existing Year 4 temporary classroom and replace with a double modular building is under way. This will accommodate both Years 4 & 5. The new modular building is more spacious and will have toilet facilities built in. This will be much better for our children and will be in place for September. The governors have set up a working group to push the new plans to ensure a smooth transition for our children in September.
Home and School Association
The new shed for outdoor playthings is in place. The HSA contributed 50% of the costs from funds raised from the disco. Their next fundraising event is the Race Night on Friday 20th May at Gomersal Cricket Club. Tickets are on sale and it sounds like it will be a fun night! Please support the event if you can. All the funds raised by the HSA go towards improving things in school for your child. Monies raised from the event are to be used to replace ICT equipment i.e PC’s, laptops that your children use in school.
This year we are supporting a mobile library service with a difference! The library is in the form of a camel and it travels to remote areas to enable children to have access to books. The monies raised from the tombola and bun stall will support this worthwhile project. The total raised was £186.20. Thank you very much
I have enclosed the attendance data for this term. 25% of children have achieved 100% attendance during the Spring Term. Well done! We also have 15 children with full attendance for 2 terms and are on track to receive a trophy if they maintain 100% over the summer term. I cannot stress enough how important it is to have a good attendance record and the impact that has on educational achievement.
Parents were consulted on proposed changes to the school uniform. The outcome from the responses we received were quite balanced so the decision has been taken to keep it as it is.
Please ensure your child has a proper PE kit for the summer term, not holiday type clothes as they are not appropriate for PE lessons. Your child will also need a pair of pumps or trainers for outdoor activities.
The adventure trail is for use by the children during school hours only. Please do not allow your child to play on it before or after school. Children have to be supervised by a member of staff for health and safety reasons and for insurance purposes. Thank you for your cooperation.
The Nursery has only a few places left for sept 2011. If your child is 2 or 3 then please make sure they are registered with us.
